2011 Hair Resolutions!!!

Okay, here is are my Top 10 2011 Hair Resolutions! I got this idea from the http://www.hairgurl.com/ blog. I thought it was a great idea, especially since I definitely have goals for 2011 including ones for my hair ;-). Let's go...

1. Do not relax hair until one year stretch is up on May 23, 2011. Currently I'm 31 weeks post relaxer.

2. Continue to wash and deep condition hair every 2 weeks while stretching and every 1-2 weeks when relaxed.

3. Once stretch season (lol) is up (AFTER I DO THE HAPPY DANCE), ENJOY my relax hair and relax every 12 weeks (3 months). I realize one thing during this one year being relaxed journey stretch, If I wanted to deal with my natural hair, I would have stayed natural. This will be my last long stretch. My goal is BSL, so any length after that is just a bonus or a headache...LOL...I'll deal with the road when I'm on it.

4. Keep doing protective styles but ENJOY and play around with more styles with relaxed hair and see which ones really suit my fancy ;-).  Buy more hair accessories also.

5. Reach BSL  (bra strap length hair)

6. Don't be a heat junkie, keep heat to minimal use (once or twice a month) and find other ways to rock the styles that would normally require heat. Find a TOP QUALITY flat iron and blow dryer also.

7. Get trims every 6 months and take care of ends in between those times.

8. Continue to moisturize and seal as needed with hair.

9. FINALLY, Maybe, just maybe... try some color for 2011. Of course this would be a nervous step with me being relaxed but see if its possible to have both relaxed and colored treated hair. Amend my regimen accordingly to combat dryness from coloring. If it falls out...remember....it's only HAIR....remember when you cut it to SL----see pic> (that's scalp length...not shoulder length...LOL) and look where you are now...;-)

10. ENJOY THE JOURNEY!!!!

Feel free to make your own and share!!!

Happy 2011 Hair Journey!!!

Hair Regimen as of 12/2010 (27 weeks post relaxer)

Ok, guys after about a year of researching, youtubing (lol), reading and buying products, I'm finally getting to know what works for MY hair. It's so tempting to go out and buy everything you see that someone else is using on their hair and think it will work for you. I decided a while back that I refused to be a product junkie all my life...LOL. I looked up and my bathroom and cabinet looked like a mini Beauty Supply!!!! Can't afford to be a product junkie, especially buying stuff that I only use once or twice and then I forget about it as it sits and collects dust. UM NO THANKA YOU! :) I have other things I can be doing with my money than wasting it. Took me a minute to realize that what works for one may not work for another but I have it now....I think ;-) So, with that being said, here's my updated hair regimen as of 12/2010.

Keep in mind, I am almost 7 months post (27 weeks) relaxer and so my regimen is a tad bit different from if I was freshly relaxed. My focus now is MOISTURE....MOISTURE....MOISTURE while I'm stretching!

Pre-poo: 100% Pure Coconut Oil. STAPLE!!!!!

Washing: I wash my hair every two weeks using ORS Uplift Shampoo or my Fantasia Tea Tree Shampoo/Conditioner/Scalp Serum (WORKS WONDERS...eliminates ALL itching) if my scalp is itching. I am currently looking for a regular moisturizing shampoo (if you have one you suggest, let me know).  Every six weeks I use my Aphogee Treatment (Shampoo, condition, protein treatment etc.)

Conditioner: Suave Humectant....I'M SO GLAD I FOUND OUT ABOUT THIS CONDITIONER. Leaves my hair sooooooo soft and makes detangling sooo easy and that's a BONUS at 7 months post relaxer. DOUBLE BONUS is I pay under $2 for it at CVS.  ;-) I only have to spray a little if any of my Mane & Tail Detangler. STAPLE!!!

Deep Conditioning (W/ Every Wash...ON DRY HAIR...30 mins w/ heat or 1 hr+ without): Concoction: Silk Elements Olive Oil Moisturizing Treatment, mixed with oils and Herbal Essence Hello Hydration Conditioner. While on the search one day online for help with stretching because it was looking real rough there and I thought I might just have to relax. My hair was not acting right around the 4th & 5th months and I was desperate for some tips. On youtube I came across this video and I had on hand everything she used for her concoction, so I tried it and my hair said YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS.  I've been using it every since and it's really help my new growth to be so manageable and extra soft. STAPLE!!!

Moisturize & Seal: As Needed. Because I'm stretching, I'm really heavy handed with this step so my hair does not need this every day. However, I do apply Coconut Oil daily or every other day. Also, During my search for tips that would help while stretching, I came across this blog and it was just RIGHT ON TIME...this concoction right here makes my new growth smooth as butter. STAPLE!!!!

Styling: LOW MANIPULATION!!!! Braids, Twists, Ponytails...off the shoulder. Very minimal direct heat. Currently, I'm rocking medium sized twist....like my pic here. In the coming months, I wants to try curly-dos with flexi rods, and I make straighten so I can see my progress...We shall see. Stay tuned... Thanks for tagging along on my journey!

MY 1 YEAR RELAX HAIR JOURNEY PICTURE STORY

I've made it to my 6 month post relaxer stretch...NOW on to the next 6 :0)

I MADE IT!!!! I have been stretching my relaxer since May 23, 2010...that included using no heat period and protective styling (buns, braids, etc..off shoulder styles). Before then, I would normally relax every 3 months or so. This was my longest stretch to date.

Initially I was just going up until my 30th birthday, but that day has come and gone and I am YET stretching! I decided pretty much in my 5th month to continue on with it. Following in the path of Fgrogan(youtube), sylver2(youtube/fotki)...just to name a few. These ladies have stretched for a year and their hair looks great. I will also be following some tips, suggestions and advice that I learned through youtube/blogspots/internet/research etc while on my stretch. I surely don't want to put all this hard work in with MUCH patience and it gets me no where at the end. So, I am making sure I am properly caring for my hair during this time.

For a moment there during the stretch...around the 4th/5th months I was praying and researching trying to find out what works for my hair so that I could make this stretch.(AUGHHHHHH) My hair was not working and it was a hot mess to me. MY NEW GROWTH IS NO JOKE! :) WHEW! But I was blessed to find and follow a few tips that worked for a couple other relaxed sistas and MY HAIR SAID YESSSSSSSSSS! I think I can make it....I think I can make it! And I did!

As of  today, I am 25 weeks and a few days. My hair is manageable and I'm learning what works for ME. I've decided to change up my regimen a little to fit my new growth (lol) and it's working fine. I'm actually looking forward to these next 6 months with the plan I have. I'm sure I can make it...unless something arises I wasn't expecting. I'll share my updated regimen and pics in a later post. I just wanted to get something up and running on here and get the ball rolling with my blogspot.

Upcoming posts:
  • Updated Regimen
  • Picture Hair History
  • My Hair Story (brief)
  • Styles that I'm rocking
  • 2011 Hair Goals & Plan of Action
P.S. Don't mind my bootleg shirt I made a while back so I can keep record of my progress...HEY, IT'S A RECESSION...;-) Looks, like I'm made my goal of APL! My hair is blow dried in this pic. I've recently joined a no scissors challenge on MyHairSistas, so won't be cutting my ends until my stretch is over.

Thanks for following my journey~ HHJ!
